Use of RampsWhat Is A Ramp? Ramp is a bridge from dock, trailer or truck level to ground level. Ramps are available in a wide range of capacities and sizes. Dock To Yard - Stationary Ramp Stationary ramp is designed to act as bridge between dock and ground. The safety chains hold yard ramp securely to the dock. The welded steel sided girders that are welded to the steel Z members provide the main load-bearing capability. Ramp capacity and life span are based on single shift application. To use the ramp on multi-shifts increase the ramp to next highest capacity. Always select a capacity that is greater than the combined weight of the forklift or truck with it's heaviest anticipated load. Auxiliary Loading Dock Ramp To increase the overall length of the ramp surfaces and to lessen the degree of incline of ramps between a loading dock and a truck or railroad car, auxiliary loading dock ramp is used. This can be securely locked to a conventional ramp. To maintain the ramp in an elevated position above the surface of the loading dock the auxiliary loading dock ramp include legs on the forward end and support on the rearward end. Pair of ears on each side of the auxiliary ramp adjacent the rearward end are received in slots in the forward end of a conventional ramp. Hence the forward end of the conventional ramp that overlaps engages the rearward end of the auxiliary ramp to provide an elongated deck surface over which loads may be transported between the loading dock and the truck. Popular Manufactures Of Ramps There are many manufacturers of ramps. Some of the most popular ones include the following: 1. Rampmaster a Div. of Thor-Weld industries 2. Bluff manufacturing Inc. 3.
